Profiles

The profile describes the shape of a heading in cross section. The profile determines the volume for the heading.

The profiles available for your design are created and listed in the Profiles data grid.

Columns in the Profiles Data Grid

Column Description
Name The name of the profile.
Type

The type of heading. Options are:

  • Rectangle: The shape of the profile is rectangular and the dimensions of the profile are determined by the values in the Width and Height fields of the data grid.
  • Circle: The shape of the profile is circular and the dimension of the profile is determined by the value in the Width field, which is used as the diameter of the circle.
  • Polygon file: The shape of the profile is determined by the shape of the polygon file you specify in the File name field.
Width The width value for a rectangular or circular profile.
Height The height value for a rectangular profile.
Length

The length value for the profile.

This value determines the level of granularity for the heading in the Charts and Reports on the Evaluate tab.

If you want to view the changes in grade in your heading in greater detail in the charts, you can use a smaller value for length. However, the smaller the value for length, the longer it takes to produce the reports and charts in the Evaluate tab.

Note: If you are scheduling from a block model, the profile length should be equal to or greater than the user block size in the block model. The grade cannot change within a block in a block model, so there is no benefit to setting the length to a value less than the block size.

File name

The location and name of the polygon file you want to use to define the shape and dimensions of the profile.

Note: When you click the Ellipsis button, the Select Polygon File form appears, in which you select the string file.
